One goal within your control
Our suggestion: before practice choose an action such as “look at my partner before passing”. Afterwards ask when it worked and what to try next. A game result does not measure personal worth.
A routine after mistakes
Practice example: one comfortable exhale, eyes on the game and the word “next”. Then choose an action: recover on defence or get open. Try the routine in training; do not expect it to remove every nervous feeling.
Parents and coaches as support
Ask what the child learned and whether they want to talk. Give brief, specific feedback without humiliation. Include the player in small decisions. Body comparisons and threats of exclusion are not development methods.
When to seek professional support
If fear, sadness, sleep or eating difficulties persist and disrupt school, relationships or training, speak with a parent or trusted adult and a qualified professional. Badges and motivational messages do not resolve these problems.
